Beyond the classroom

The History Department runs several trips, including conferences to hear lectures by eminent historians. We make the most of being in London by going to the theatre and the cinema. Theatre visits include ‘Flare Path’, ‘Enron’, ‘The History Boys’ and Schiller’s ‘Mary Stuart’. Film excursions include ‘Made in Dagenham’, ‘Elizabeth: The Golden Age’, ‘Anna Karenina’, ’The Iron Lady’ and ‘The Help’.

We also attend lectures at the LSE and UCL on a frequent basis with A level students. Regular trips are made to the Museum of London, Hampton Court, the National Maritime Museum, Gunnersbury Park Museum and First World War sites in Ypres, Belgium.

English and History Competiton

Congratulations to our competition winners! Over the summer holidays, Year 11 students were encouraged to interview somebody who was older than them about an experience or period of time in their past and reflect on what they have learnt. All of the entries provided a fascinating, personal insight into a number of hugely significant historical events. Mr Godowski and Mrs Fullbrook really enjoyed reading all of the reflections and were impressed by the level of historical detail and flair which students demonstrated in their writing.
The competition winners were:

Joint 1st place - Evie Soames  11MK and Jemima Webb 11VG
2nd place - Isra Saker 11MK
3rd place - Poppy September-Peters 11JLL

Please do take some time to read the winning entries - they are all very impressive!
