The Debating Society meets every week to decide on motions and teams for the fortnightly debate. The girls can volunteer to speak, but are sometimes suggested by their subject teachers.
The Debating Society offers a fantastic opportunity for the girls to experience public speaking in a friendly setting and there are a great variety of motions to be argued. Each debate is judged according to style, content and flair. The girls also have an opportunity to read their feedback from the judges and to improve on their public speaking skills, such as pace, projection and rebuttal.
Debating is open to everyone, even if they do not wish to speak and we have a large number of seasoned debaters across all year groups. Girls are encouraged to come along and take part in the floor debate or just listen and support; again, we have many regulars.
In the Spring Term we hold the Inter-House Debate Competition, involving members of each Key Stage from every House. House Captains are in charge of their teams and the girls are supported by their Houses.
